Derrick D. Byers, a 34-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 20, 2018, in High Point, North Carolina. Derrick was shot outside the High Point Bowling Center and Sidelines Bar and Grill at 309 W. Fairfield Road. The incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m., and police found two people had been shot in the parking lot.
While one victim was taken to the hospital, Derrick Byers succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into Derrick Byers' death led to the arrest of Bobby L. Wall Jr., a 32-year-old male from High Point. Wall was charged with first-degree murder in connection to Derrick's death. The police were able to locate Wall at a home on Gavin Drive in High Point, where he was arrested by the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Wall is currently being held at the Guilford County Jail without bond.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. The High Point Police Department has urged anyone with information about the case to come forward. Derrick Byers' death marked the 17th homicide in High Point in 2018.
Derrick Byers was born on September 29, 1984, and was a beloved member of his community. He is survived by his daughters, Tyliah Graham, Kya Byers, and Amani Fordham, his mother Traci Sadonia McCauley, and his siblings, Timeka Donnell, Shemika Legrande, and David Williamson. Derrick was predeceased by his father, Gerald Wayne Hunter, and his brother, Gerald Williamson.
