An evening card game among friends at a Shreveport tire shop turned into a scene of chaos and violence on May 5, 2016, ending the life of 37-year-old Leatrick Benjamin. That night, three or four masked men, armed with what witnesses described as semi-automatic rifles, burst into the establishment and opened fire on the individuals inside. The attack was sudden and brutal, leaving a devastating toll.
In the hail of bullets, Mr.
Benjamin and another man, 37-year-old Elton Wayne Madison, were fatally wounded. The assailants' gunfire also injured several other people present at the gathering. The aftermath of the ambush was grim, with two men dead and others requiring medical attention for their injuries. Two individuals sustained serious wounds, while four others were treated for less severe injuries and subsequently released from the hospital.
In the immediate wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials began their investigation into the deadly assault. However, the perpetrators had fled the scene before police arrived, their identities concealed behind masks. Authorities reported at the time that they had not established a motive for the attack and had no immediate leads on the suspects.
