In the quiet neighborhood of Martin Luther King Jr. in Shreveport, Louisiana, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 23-year-old April Bruley. On February 6, 2017, a concerned relative checking on the welfare of Bruley and her partner, Jerry Edward Brown III, made a grim discovery inside their home. Both Bruley and 21-year-old Brown were found deceased, each having suffered from gunshot wounds.
The incident, which authorities believe happened between late Sunday evening and early Monday morning, was ultimately ruled a murder-suicide.
Investigators from the Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Coroner's office determined that Brown was the perpetrator in the violent event. It is believed that an argument between the couple, who were in a romantic relationship, escalated to a fatal conclusion. The devastating outcome left family and friends in a state of shock and disbelief. Her sister, Chasidy Green, expressed her profound grief, stating she never imagined their disputes would lead to such a tragic end. Neighbors also reported hearing arguments before the fatal shootings occurred.
The heartbreak of the situation was compounded by the presence of the couple's two young boys, who were in the home at the time of the murder-suicide. Fortunately, the children were found unharmed and were safely removed from the scene by law enforcement. The community mourned the loss of a young mother, and funeral services for April Bruley were held on February 18, 2017, at the Temple of Vision Baptist Church in Shreveport. The investigation, pending forensic autopsies, pointed to Jerry Edward Brown III as the person responsible for the death of April Bruley before taking his own life.
