In the summer of 2018, the life of 36-year-old Latoya Wheeler was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. On the evening of August 1st, just before 8:00 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Alston Street in the Allendale neighborhood following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Wheeler inside a residence, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Emergency responders from the Shreveport Fire Department quickly transported her to University Health Hospital. Despite their efforts, Latoya Wheeler was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Born on May 18, 1982, her death was a result of the fatal injuries she sustained.
Investigators from the Violent Crimes and Crimes Scene Units began a thorough investigation at the scene, collecting physical evidence to piece together the events that led to the shooting. It was determined that at least two men were present inside the home at the time of the incident. Both men were taken to the Shreveport Police Complex for questioning. Following interviews with detectives, both individuals were released. At the time of the initial reports, the investigation into Wheeler's death was ongoing. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the years that have followed.
