In the late summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in a Shreveport, Louisiana home escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of 53-year-old Michelle Leigh Wells. On the evening of Wednesday, August 16th, a heated argument erupted between Wells and her boyfriend, 55-year-old Richard Spencer, at a residence in the Valencia subdivision. The altercation took a fatal turn when Spencer allegedly shot Wells multiple times.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Wells was rushed to a
local hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 PM. The coroner's report would later confirm that the cause of death was the gunshot wounds she sustained.
In the hours that followed the shooting, the Shreveport Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Law enforcement officials quickly identified Richard Spencer as the primary suspect in the death of his girlfriend. As the investigation progressed, Spencer made the decision to turn himself in to the authorities. On August 17th, he voluntarily surrendered at the Minden Police Department.
Following his surrender, Spencer was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Michelle Leigh Wells. He was later transferred to the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center as the legal proceedings against him commenced. The Shreveport Police Department was notified of his custody status, marking a significant development in a case that had tragically cut a woman's life short.
