In the early hours of January 14, 2024, a tragic and violent incident unfolded in Shreveport, Louisiana, claiming the life of 29-year-old Jasmine Johnson. The Shreveport Police Department responded to a shooting on Willis Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. Inside the residence, officers discovered Jasmine Johnson, her 70-year-old mother Joan Johnson, and a male victim, all suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Joan Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jasmine Johnson and the male victim were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Jasmine succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The male victim, later identified as Jasmine's 77-year-old father, John Johnson, survived the attack. The couple's three children were present in the home at the time of the incident but were not physically harmed.
The investigation quickly identified Donald White, a man with whom Jasmine Johnson was romantically involved, as the suspect. White was apprehended at his home shortly after the shooting. It was revealed that there were outstanding warrants for White stemming from a previous domestic incident involving Jasmine in August of the prior year. In a statement given to police from her hospital bed, Jasmine recounted an incident earlier that day where White had chased her car after she left a grocery store. She stated that she was 23 weeks pregnant at the time.
Donald White was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. He represented himself during his trial. In September 2025, a jury convicted him on all counts after just one hour of deliberation. White was subsequently sentenced to two life sentences for the murders, to be served consecutively with an additional 50-year sentence for the attempted murder of John Johnson.
