A Sunday afternoon visit to her grandparents' home turned into a tragedy for 13-year-old Landry Faith Anglin on May 1, 2022. The eighth-grader from Shreveport, Louisiana, was inside the house on Fairfield Avenue with her family when a 'rolling shootout' erupted in the street outside. A stray bullet penetrated the home and struck Landry. Her mother, Michelle, heard a loud pop followed by her daughter's screams for help.
Despite efforts by her family to perform CPR before she was transported to the hospital, Landry succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead later that day.
The investigation into the senseless shooting led police to identify several individuals believed to be involved in the gun battle. Warrants were issued for two men and one woman. One of the suspects, 23-year-old Kenmiccael Dano Ray, fled to Arlington, Texas, but was apprehended five days after the shooting. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon from a vehicle. A Caddo Parish grand jury later indicted Ray on the second-degree murder charge.
During his trial, prosecutors presented evidence, including video footage, showing Ray firing an assault rifle at a vehicle that was following him. The defense argued that Ray was defending himself from other shooters. However, the jury ultimately convicted him. Following his conviction, Kenmiccael Dano Ray was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, pardon, or a reduction in his sentence. Three other individuals, Gavontay Johnson, Tramaine Taylor, and Deanthony Johnson, have also been named as codefendants in the case and are awaiting trial for their alleged involvement in the incident that led to Landry Anglin's death.
