In the spring of 2022, a dispute in Southeast Washington, D.C. tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 48-year-old Irvin Brandon. On the evening of May 3rd, in the 700 block of Brandywine Street, SE, Mr. Brandon, a Black male, was reportedly seen arguing with two unidentified men. The disagreement took a violent turn when he was shot.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Seventh District responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 9:07 p.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Brandon suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported him to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. For more than two weeks, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on May 20, 2022.
Following an autopsy, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and officially ruled it a homicide. Detectives from the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department are leading the investigation into Mr. Brandon's death. To date, no arrests have been made in the case, and authorities have not released any descriptions of potential suspects. The police have not publicly disclosed a possible motive for the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek assistance from the public to bring resolution to the case.
