In the days leading up to her tragic death, 35-year-old Cynthia McCray, a Black female, reached out for help, contacting the Shreveport Police Department on six separate occasions. Her calls for assistance foreshadowed the violent end she would meet on May 12, 2015. On that Tuesday, a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal encounter that would leave both McCray and her apparent partner deceased in what was ultimately ruled a murder-suicide.
The situation culminated in a tense standoff
with law enforcement. Police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found McCray suffering from gunshot wounds. The suspect had barricaded himself inside a residence, initiating a prolonged confrontation with officers.
After attempts to negotiate a peaceful surrender were unsuccessful, the standoff concluded with the suspect taking his own life. Inside the residence, officers found him deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation that followed confirmed that the man, whose name has not been publicly released, was the sole perpetrator in McCray's death. The incident stands as a somber reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. There were no arrests made as the only suspect died by suicide.
