In the quiet of a summer night in Shreveport, Louisiana, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the lives of two young people. On the evening of July 23, 2026, in a residence on Malcolm Street, 22-year-old Tamia Woodard was fatally wounded in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The incident, which unfolded in the Werner Park neighborhood, also resulted in the death of 20-year-old Nathan Lindsey.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's office later confirmed the identities of both individuals.
Shreveport Police were dispatched to the Malcolm Street home around 11:25 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Tamia Woodard was found with a gunshot wound to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Shreveport Fire Department. Nearby, Nathan Lindsey was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered from his hand. Lindsey was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead the following morning.
The ongoing investigation by the Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit has shed some light on the moments leading up to the fatal gunshots. According to witness statements, Woodard and Lindsey had been engaged in a verbal argument inside a bedroom. A witness reported hearing a brief physical altercation, which was immediately followed by the sound of two gunshots. This witness then entered the room to find both Woodard and Lindsey with critical injuries. Based on the initial evidence and witness accounts, investigators believe that Lindsey shot Woodard before turning the gun on himself. As the investigation continues, the case stands as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence, leaving two families to mourn the loss of young lives cut short. Given that the sole suspect in Woodard's death is also deceased, the case is unlikely to see any arrests or criminal prosecution.
