A compassionate attempt to aid a friend's mother in a moment of distress tragically ended the life of 22-year-old Imunique Williams in Shreveport, Louisiana, on July 16, 2026. The harrowing incident began as a welfare check at the Attaway Street home of 23-year-old Thomas Lemons. His mother, concerned for his mental well-being, had gone to his residence, but the situation rapidly deteriorated. Lemons allegedly became aggressive and opened fire on his mother. In an act of bravery, Williams attempted to drive Lemons' mother and her own sister to safety.
What followed was a terrifying pursuit through the streets of Shreveport. Lemons, in his own vehicle, chased Williams' car, firing repeatedly into it as she drove south on Linwood Avenue. Williams was struck multiple times by the gunfire, causing her to lose control of her vehicle. Her car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Chuckie Brooks. Williams died at the scene from her gunshot wounds. Brooks was critically injured in the crash and later succumbed to his injuries. The violence did not end there; after the collision, Lemons is alleged to have exited his vehicle and fired randomly at other cars and bystanders, wounding three more people before he was apprehended by police.
Thomas Lemons was taken into custody at the scene of the chaotic and tragic events. Following an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department, he was charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Imunique Williams and manslaughter for the death of Chuckie Brooks. Additionally, he faced three counts of attempted second-degree murder for the other individuals who were wounded during the incident. Following his arrest, Lemons invoked his right to remain silent and did not provide a statement to detectives. The case left the Shreveport community in shock, as a domestic incident escalated into a public rampage that claimed two innocent lives and injured several others, forever altering the lives of multiple families.
