In the early morning hours of July 15, 2017, the life of 41-year-old Monique Maxie, an African American woman, was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At approximately 1:30 a.m., as Maxie and another person were getting out of a vehicle on Blount Road, several shots were fired in their direction. Maxie was the only one struck by the gunfire. She was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but ultimately succumbed to her wounds.
