In the early morning hours of November 7, 2017, the life of 24-year-old Alyssa Kanouse was tragically cut short in what authorities would later describe as a domestic murder-suicide. The female victim was found in her vehicle in the Central area of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She had been fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend, Larry Warino Jr.
Authorities with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office discovered the bodies in separate vehicles in the vicinity of Wax Road near Durmast Drive after
responding to a call around 6:40 a.m. The investigation swiftly revealed that Warino, a legislative aide for a Louisiana state representative, had shot Kanouse before turning the gun on himself.
The incident was investigated as a result of a domestic dispute between the former couple. The District Attorney, Hillar Moore, suggested that mental health issues may have played a role in the tragic events that unfolded. The investigation concluded that Warino was the sole perpetrator, and with his death, the case was closed. No other suspects were sought, and no arrests were made in connection with Kanouse's death.
Alyssa Joye Kanouse, born on April 22, 1993, was a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in Marketing. She was remembered as a rising star at her job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
