In the autumn of 2013, a domestic dispute at a mobile home park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, ended in a tragic murder-suicide. On Sunday, October 27, 2013, deputies from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Pecue Mobile Home Estates following reports of a loud domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, they made a grim discovery inside one of the trailers.
Inside the home, authorities found the bodies of 26-year-old Brittany Rogers and 39-year-old Sedric
Richard. Investigators determined that Rogers had been the victim of a homicide, having sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. Richard was identified as the shooter, and it is believed that he turned the gun on himself, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The case was quickly classified as a murder-suicide, with Richard as the sole suspect in Rogers' death.
Further investigation into the incident revealed a history of domestic turmoil between the couple. Booking records from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison showed that Richard had been arrested just a month prior, on September 25, for domestic abuse battery. He was released the following day. Neighbors in the mobile home park knew Richard as a driver for the Capital Area Transit System, or CATS, and noted that he often parked his work shuttle outside the residence.
