On March 17, 2018, Bianca Queen, a 29-year-old female, was found brutally murdered in her Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home on Annette Street. The young mother’s life was cut short in a violent attack that left the community in shock. Inside her residence, investigators discovered a grim scene; Queen had been stabbed seven times and suffered a single gunshot wound to her face.
The heinous nature of the crime prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by law enforcement.
Suspicion quickly fell upon her live-in boyfriend, 30-year-old Louis Howard, who was also the father of her eighteen-month-old son. Later that same day, after questioning by police, Howard was arrested and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Queen's death. The preliminary investigation suggested a domestic dispute that had escalated to a fatal confrontation. In addition to her young son with Howard, Queen was also a mother to a daughter.
Following his arrest, Louis Howard was indicted by a grand jury for second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty, and the case proceeded to a jury trial. Despite his claims of innocence and the defense's argument that the circumstantial evidence was insufficient for a conviction, the jury found him guilty as charged. The court handed down the mandatory sentence for his crime: life in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Howard later appealed his conviction, asserting that the evidence presented at trial was not enough to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. However, the appellate court affirmed the original conviction and sentence, ensuring that he would remain incarcerated for the murder of Bianca Queen.
