In the early morning hours of March 18, 2018, the life of 30-year-old Terrance Roddy, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The day began with a heated verbal altercation between Roddy and a woman named Gezeria Bell, which would ultimately end in gunfire.
The dispute between Roddy and the 30-year-old Bell had reportedly been ongoing for weeks, with Bell expressing a desire for Roddy to leave her home on Oleson Street.
On that fateful Sunday, the conflict reached its devastating climax. Bell had armed herself with a handgun given to her by a friend. Following another argument inside the residence, Bell alleged that Roddy reached for a handgun. In response, she drew her own weapon and fired, striking Roddy in the chest and leg.
Wounded, Roddy fled from the house, seeking help from a neighbor. He collapsed on their porch in the 5100 block of Oleson Street and succumbed to his injuries around 8:49 a.m. In the wake of the shooting, Gezeria Bell initially fled the scene but later turned herself into the authorities. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, facing a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Terrance Roddy.
