In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 8, 2024, Donald Trim, a 40-year-old male, was with a group of his family members outside the AM Mart convenience store located at 2400 Highland Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At approximately 3:30 a.m., an unknown individual began shooting into the group. Trim was the only person struck by the gunfire and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Detectives immediately began an
investigation into the fatal shooting. For months, the case remained under investigation as authorities worked to identify a suspect. An obituary for Donald Trim announced that his religious services would be held on September 20, 2024, at the Evening Star Baptist Church in Baker, Louisiana.
Nearly a year later, in August 2025, a breakthrough in the case was announced. The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested 22-year-old Jalyn Washington in connection with the murder of Donald Trim. Washington was subsequently booked on the charge of second-degree murder. The arrest brought a significant development to a case that had impacted a local family and community.
