In a tragic sequence of events, 28-year-old Clayton Wheeler, a male resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, lost his life in November 2018. The incident that led to his untimely death began on the evening of Thursday, November 15, 2018, at a residence located in the 5000 block of Sherwood Street. During a confrontation at the house, Wheeler was shot twice.
Despite being rushed to a medical facility and battling for his life, he succumbed to his injuries three days later, on Sunday, November 18, 2018.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, Tiwan Cornell Snowden, who was 26 years old at the time. Snowden was promptly arrested and initially booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of attempted second-degree murder. However, following Wheeler's death, the charges against Snowden were upgraded to second-degree murder. The motive behind the altercation and subsequent shooting has not been made clear.
Further investigation revealed that after shooting Wheeler, Snowden had attempted to conceal the crime. He admitted to investigators that he tried to move the victim's body from the scene of the shooting and had also given the firearm used in the incident to another individual to dispose of. These actions led to an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
In the resolution of the legal proceedings, Tiwan Cornell Snowden entered into a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter as well as obstruction of justice. As a result of his guilty plea, Snowden was sentenced to serve 40 years in prison for his role in the death of Clayton Wheeler.
