On the evening of April 19, 2024, Dorsey Dean Moorlet, a 37-year-old Black male, was fatally shot outside his apartment at the Forest Park Apartments on Highway 70 South in the Bellevue area of Nashville, Tennessee. Moorlet was reportedly leaving for work around 10:15 p.m. but had briefly returned to his apartment to retrieve a forgotten item when he was shot multiple times near his front door.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into Moorlet's death, led by the Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit, quickly pointed to a domestic-related incident. In late May, authorities arrested 19-year-old Jamya Bolton-Madison, the daughter of Moorlet's girlfriend, in connection with the fatal shooting. The motive for the murder was believed to be related to the relationship between Moorlet and Bolton-Madison's mother.
Following her arrest, Jamya Bolton-Madison was charged with criminal homicide for the death of Dorsey Moorlet. In addition to the homicide charge, she also faces accusations of gun theft for allegedly stealing her mother's pistol, which is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, and evidence tampering. Witnesses reportedly played a crucial role in the investigation, with one individual claiming that Bolton-Madison had confessed to the shooting. Surveillance footage from inside the apartment also reportedly captured the incident. Bolton-Madison was jailed in lieu of a $112,500 bond. The case is proceeding through the legal system.
