In the early morning hours of July 26, 2014, Montinez Devon Johnson, a 25-year-old African American man, was standing outside his apartment on University Court in Nashville, Tennessee, with two other men. Their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of two men in a black Monte Carlo, sparking a dispute.
