On the cold winter day of February 4, 1984, Richard DiNome, a 29-year-old male, was found murdered in his Gravesend, Brooklyn home. He was discovered in his living room, having been shot in the back of the head with an automatic weapon. Two other individuals, who reportedly had no connections to organized crime, were also found killed at the scene.
DiNome was known to be an associate of the Gambino crime family and a former member of the notorious DeMeo crew, a group infamous for its
violence. Authorities have long suspected that DiNome was killed to prevent him from cooperating with law enforcement and becoming a witness for the government. His brother, Frederick DiNome, was a government informant.
Despite the strong suspicions of a mob-related execution, the case of Richard DiNome's murder officially remains unsolved. While law enforcement suspected members of the DeMeo crew were behind the killing, no arrests were ever made, and no one has been charged in connection with the triple homicide. The violent end of Richard DiNome is often seen as another chapter in the brutal history of the DeMeo crew, a faction known for silencing its own to protect its criminal enterprises.
