In the spring of 2017, the life of Carlos Moran, a 32-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of May 29, 2017, Moran was in the Napier-Sudekum neighborhood when he was shot and killed during an attempted robbery. He was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Moran was a decorated combat veteran who had served two tours in Iraq and was remembered for his kindness and generosity.
The investigation into
Moran's death led to the identification of two suspects. One of the men was later cleared of all charges. The other, Lemonderius Antwan Goodner, was arrested and charged in connection with the murder. The case against Goodner proceeded to a grand jury.
Goodner was ultimately convicted by a Davidson County jury of premeditated first-degree murder, felony murder, and attempted especially aggravated robbery. Surveillance footage presented during the trial showed Goodner confronting Moran, holding him at gunpoint while others went through his pockets, and then shooting him in the back as he tried to flee. Following his conviction, Lemonderius Goodner was sentenced to life in prison plus ten years. His appeal of the conviction was unsuccessful, with the court affirming the trial court's judgment in December 2023.
