In the early afternoon of January 5, 2019, Shreveport Police were dispatched to a residence on Lakeshore Drive following reports of a man discovered inside with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 36-year-old Jimmy Ray Grant Jr. He was quickly transported to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the city's first homicide of the year immediately commenced, with
detectives working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts soon focused on a suspect close to the victim. Following interviews with investigators at the Shreveport Police Headquarters, authorities arrested 39-year-old Jeremy Grant.
In a tragic turn of events, the primary suspect in Jimmy Ray Grant Jr.'s death was revealed to be his own brother. Jeremy Grant was taken into custody and booked into the Shreveport City Jail. He was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public as the investigation continued.
