Frank W. Brugh, a Deputy Sheriff in Jackson County, Texas, met a tragic end on September 13, 1903. He was shot and killed while performing his duties alongside Sheriff George Wharton. The incident occurred on a train traveling between Victoria and Edna, Texas. The officers had arrested a man who was wanted for escaping from a prison in Billings, Montana.
