Bill Davidson, a 43-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically died on April 11, 1992, in Edna, Texas. He was a dedicated Texas Department of Public Safety highway patrolman, having served for nearly 20 years since 1973. Davidson was known for his commitment to his community and his role as a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Davidson's death occurred after he stopped a stolen vehicle on U.S. Highway 59. As he approached the vehicle, the suspect inside shot him in the neck with a 9 mm handgun. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Victoria, Davidson succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The suspect, a Houston man, was arrested shortly after the shooting. He was found with the murder weapon and later confessed to the crime. During his trial, the suspect claimed that the rap music he was listening to compelled him to shoot Davidson. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. The suspect was executed on October 6, 2005.
