In the pre-dawn hours of November 4, 2024, the life of 15-year-old Anthony Vinson Jr., a male from Shreveport, Louisiana, was tragically cut short by gun violence. The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. near the Hollywood Mini Mart at the intersection of Jewella Avenue and Peyton Street. Vinson was on his bicycle when a champagne-colored, early 2000s model Yukon approached. A passenger in the vehicle opened fire, striking the teenager.
He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Detectives later found several spent shell casings near the bicycle Vinson had been riding.
The investigation into the drive-by shooting led to the swift arrest of two individuals. On the same day as the shooting, Shreveport Police apprehended 15-year-old Rodnick DeMarquin Calhoun. Also taken into custody was Onterio Robinson, who was 18 or 19 at the time. Both were implicated in the death of Anthony Vinson Jr. The community mourned the loss of the young man, with funeral services held on November 16, 2024.
In the months that followed, the legal process began to unfold for the two suspects. The Caddo Parish District Attorney's office successfully filed a motion to have Rodnick Calhoun tried as an adult. He was subsequently transferred from a juvenile detention center to the Caddo Correctional Center to await trial. In February 2025, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury indicted both Calhoun and Onterio Robinson on charges of second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Anthony Vinson Jr. Both men are awaiting their trials.
