On a Saturday afternoon in Raceland, Louisiana, the life of 26-year-old Marcel Tyran Turner was tragically cut short. Just before 3 p.m. on December 15, 2018, law enforcement received a call about a shooting at a residence on Market Street. When deputies from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office arrived, they discovered Marcel in the garage of the home, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that afternoon did not end with Marcel.
Another man, Jeremiah Ballard, was also shot during the incident. He was rushed to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A third individual who was also in the garage at the time of the attack managed to escape without physical harm.
Investigators pieced together the events of that day and learned that two assailants, both dressed in black and concealing their faces with camouflage masks, had entered the garage and opened fire on the men inside. The subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of two brothers in connection with the double homicide. The siblings were taken into custody and faced charges of first-degree murder for the deaths of Marcel Turner and Jeremiah Ballard.
