In the early evening of December 26, 2020, the life of 18-year-old DJohn Porter, a male from Raceland, Louisiana, was cut tragically short. Around 7:15 p.m., deputies from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office were called to the 700 block of St. Louis Street in Raceland following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Porter lying unresponsive in the street.
Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the young man's death quickly pointed to a suspect. Detectives identified 19-year-old Kelvin Davis, also a resident of Raceland, as the individual allegedly responsible for the fatal shooting. Their investigation led to a warrant being issued for Davis's arrest on a charge of Second Degree Murder on January 8, 2021.
At the time the murder warrant was issued, Kelvin Davis was already in the custody of law enforcement. He had been arrested on December 28, 2020, in connection with a string of 11 vehicle burglaries that had occurred in September of the previous year. With the new warrant, Davis was subsequently booked on the charge of Second Degree Murder. His total bail was set at $1,315,000. The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing.
