On December 26th, 25-year-old Tyree Jackson was shot, sustaining injuries that would ultimately prove fatal. Another man was also injured in the incident, though his wounds were described as minor.

For five agonizing days, Tyree Jackson fought for his life at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. His family held onto hope, but on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2018, he succumbed to his injuries. Born on January 30, 1993, in Baton Rouge, Tyree was a product of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. His death left behind a young daughter, a sister, and three brothers to mourn his loss.
The investigation into Tyree's death continued for months, leaving his loved ones and the community awaiting justice. Finally, in late March of 2019, a breakthrough was announced. Fugitive task force agents successfully located and arrested a suspect in connection with the end-of-the-year slaying. Thirty-one-year-old Joshua White was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Tyree Jackson. While an arrest was made, law enforcement officials did not publicly disclose a motive for the shooting that claimed a young man's life and forever altered the lives of those who knew him.
