On the night of April 18, 2019, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a young Black / African American man named Tremell Tumblin, aged 20, was fatally shot at his residence on Lewis Street. The incident occurred at approximately 11:21 p.m. following what authorities described as an argument between Tumblin and another individual. The assailant fled the scene on foot before law enforcement arrived.
When police reached the home, they found that Tumblin had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation began with an unknown suspect, and the Baton Rouge Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward to assist the Violent Crimes Unit. For weeks, the case progressed as detectives pieced together the events of that tragic night. The community and Tumblin's family were left awaiting answers in the sudden and violent loss of the young man.
Less than a month later, a significant development brought a sense of progress to the investigation. On May 7, 2019, police arrested 18-year-old Letroyed Strowder in connection with Tumblin's death. Strowder was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced serious charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery for his alleged role in the shooting that ended Tremell Tumblin's life.
