On the evening of Wednesday, June 23, 2021, a fatal altercation unfolded on Lakeside Drive near Gueydan and Lake Arthur, Louisiana, ending the life of 55-year-old Anthony Joseph Caro Jr. The man, a resident of the area, suffered a fatal gunshot wound during a dispute. The incident prompted a response from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office after they received reports of a shooting.
Responding deputies encountered a vehicle parked on the roadway of LA Highway 717, which was being
driven by the victim's son, 29-year-old Anthony Caro III. An altercation between the son and law enforcement ensued, culminating in the younger Caro crashing his vehicle. He was subsequently taken into custody by the authorities.
Further investigation by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office revealed that the preceding altercation between Anthony Caro Jr. and his son had led to the deadly shooting. As a result of the investigation, Anthony Caro III was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of his father. Law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that more charges could be pending as they continued to gather information about the tragic event.
