Lorenzo Dixon, a 32-year-old man known in the Baton Rouge area as the rapper Zoe Realla, was fatally wounded in a shooting on April 22, 2017. On that day, at approximately 2:00 pm, Dixon was in the parking lot at 4149 Winbourne Avenue when several masked individuals in a gray Chevy Impala opened fire on him. He was struck multiple times but managed to exit his vehicle before the assailants shot him again at close range.
Dixon was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries six days later.
The investigation into Dixon's death revealed a complex murder-for-hire plot allegedly orchestrated by Martrell Harris, who authorities believe to be a key figure in a large-scale drug trafficking operation. According to a witness, Harris paid Dexter Collins to kill Dixon. The shooters in the case were identified as Dexter Collins and Patrick Carter, with Kelvin Phillips acting as the getaway driver. A witness reported an argument between Collins and Carter after the shooting, with Collins being upset that Carter had not also killed another individual who was present at the scene and had allegedly lured Dixon to the location.
In the years following the murder, several arrests were made in connection with the case. Kelvin Phillips and Dexter Collins were both arrested on February 6, 2020, and charged with the first-degree murder of Lorenzo Dixon. However, the charges against both men were later dropped due to a lack of evidence. Martrell Harris turned himself in to authorities on March 17, 2021, and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, including for the death of Lorenzo Dixon. Less than two months later, he was also released due to a lack of evidence. In February 2021, Dexter Collins was released from jail for the same reason. The investigation also linked Phillips to other violent crimes in the Baton Rouge area.
