In the late summer of 2021, the life of TyQuarion Ge'Ray Thomas, a 20-year-old African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. On August 7, 2021, Thomas was fatally wounded in a shooting that unfolded in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. The violent encounter began as a shootout in the 8800 block of Coyth Lane.

The events of that day escalated into a chase, with Davion Ruffin, also 20 years old at the time, allegedly pursuing Thomas from a residence on Coyth Lane while firing a weapon. The pursuit ended on Lynbrook Boulevard, where Ruffin is accused of shooting Thomas multiple times, inflicting the mortal wounds that would claim his life.

In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation by the Shreveport Police Department led to the arrests of three individuals. Davion Ruffin was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role as the shooter. Another individual, 17-year-old Maakaya Simone Lee, was also implicated in the crime. She was charged as a principal to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Authorities made the decision to charge Lee as an adult due to the gravity of the accusations against her, which included allegedly driving the getaway vehicle and being present during the fatal shooting.

A third person, L'Mykal Hicks, faced a charge of failure to report the commission of a felony in connection with the incident. Following his arrest in Houston, Hicks awaited extradition back to Shreveport to face the charge. A judge set his bond at $75,000. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, as the legal process for the three individuals accused in connection with his death began to unfold.
