Lacorrion Turner, 26, a Black man, was killed in a late-night shooting in the Duson area of Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, in the final hours of August 23, 2022—an incident that some public gun-violence logs later recorded under August 24, 2022.
Deputies responded to the 600 block of Marigny Circle and found Turner suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead.
In the same incident, a woman was also found injured, though reports said she was not shot, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Early updates from investigators indicated there were no immediate arrests as the case began to unfold.
In the months that followed, the case moved from the first rush of a scene response into the slower churn of charging decisions and court procedure. By mid-December 2022, reporting on Lafayette Parish grand jury activity stated that Leory Leonard Miles Jr., 23, was indicted in connection with the Marigny Circle killing—facing a charge of second-degree murder as well as aggravated second-degree battery with a dangerous weapon, reflecting not only Turner’s death but also the harm done to the injured woman.
Separate law-enforcement updates from outside Lafayette Parish later described Miles being held in relation to those Lafayette Parish charges, alongside other allegations in other jurisdictions, indicating he was in custody as those proceedings continued.
