David Algerine Crawford, a 45-year-old white male, served as the Sheriff of Johnson County, Georgia. On February 5, 1903, while attempting to serve a warrant in Harrison, Georgia, he was fatally shot. The warrant was for a man wanted on gambling charges and suspected in two murders. Sheriff Crawford, accompanied by a county bailiff, located the suspect at a general store. To avoid a confrontation inside, Sheriff Crawford waited on the front porch.
