In the late fall of 2021, the family of Ronald Leonard Williams, a 54-year-old Black male, grew worried when he failed to return after borrowing a cousin's car. They reported him missing on November 28, 2021, from Gwinnett County, Georgia, sparking an investigation that would soon uncover a grim and violent end to his life. The search for Williams involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Gwinnett County Police Department, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, the Cobb County Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators tracked Williams' last known whereabouts through his cell phone and vehicle, which led them to Paulding County. A significant break in the case came on December 3, 2021, when his vehicle was discovered at an apartment complex in Smyrna, located in Cobb County. Inside the car, detectives found evidence suggesting a violent assault had taken place, intensifying their efforts to find him.
The investigation soon zeroed in on an associate of Williams, a 44-year-old man named Wesley Richard Brock. On December 8, 2021, armed with a search warrant, detectives arrived at Brock's home on Valley Brook Drive in Dallas, Georgia. During an interview with investigators, Brock confessed to shooting and killing Williams. He then led them to a rural area in northern Paulding County, near Williams Road, where he had disposed of the body. There, the Paulding County Coroner pronounced Ronald Williams deceased.
Following his confession, Wesley Richard Brock was arrested and faced a slew of felony charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing the death of another person, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was held in the Paulding County Jail without bond. In August 2022, a jury found Brock guilty on all counts. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional 15 years to be served consecutively. An appeal by Brock was later denied, with the Supreme Court of Georgia affirming the original conviction and sentence.
