In the pre-dawn hours of July 2, 2021, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Country Gardens Apartment complex in Dallas, Georgia. When Paulding County sheriff's deputies arrived at the Harmony Path location shortly after 5:30 a.m., they discovered a grim scene in the parking lot. Lindsey Darnell Foster, a 31-year-old African American male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Foster's death quickly became a homicide case, the fourth in Paulding County that year. Initially, authorities had no suspects and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. Detectives worked the case, and within days, their investigation pointed toward a familial connection. The focus of the inquiry soon centered on Foster's own half-brother.
On July 12, 2021, just ten days after the fatal shooting, law enforcement officers made jejich move. They executed arrest warrants at a residence on Ivy Brook Drive, a short distance from the apartment complex where Foster had been killed. Deputies took 29-year-old Octavious Leonce Bates into custody without incident for the murder of his half-brother.
Further investigation revealed that another person was allegedly involved in trying to conceal the crime. Bates's 28-year-old girlfriend, Kristen Taylor Moore, was also arrested at the same location. Authorities charged Bates with a slate of felonies, including malice murder, murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence, and stalking. Moore faced felony charges of hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal and tampering with evidence. Both suspects were booked into the Paulding County Jail and held without bond.
