In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 18, 2022, a gathering of friends in Dallas, Georgia, took a tragic and fatal turn. Dane Michael Patrick Kellum, a 38-year-old White male, was shot and killed during a dispute at the home of a friend. The events unfolded at a residence on Mill Point Drive, where Kellum and others were visiting the homeowner, 47-year-old David Ayers May.
According to reports from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, the evening had been marked by heavy drinking among the attendees. At approximately 1:15 a.m., a verbal argument erupted between Kellum and May. The disagreement escalated, becoming increasingly heated until May allegedly retrieved a pistol and shot Kellum in the head. The gunshot wound proved to be fatal, and Kellum was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, a 911 call was placed, and sheriff's deputies responded to the residence. Upon their arrival, they were able to make contact with May and took him into custody without incident. Inside the home, they discovered Kellum's body. May was subsequently arrested and transported to the Paulding County Jail.
