In the quiet community of Rising Fawn, Georgia, the life of 32-year-old Justin Alfrey was tragically cut short on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Alfrey, a resident of Valley Head, Alabama, was discovered shot to death inside his vehicle at 106 Highway 11. The grim discovery prompted an immediate investigation by the Dade County Sheriff's Office, who soon requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
As investigators began to piece together the events leading to Alfrey's death, witnesses reported seeing a Chevrolet truck leaving the area around the time the victim was found. The GBI processed the crime scene, collecting evidence and taking tire impressions in the hopes of identifying a suspect. An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted at the GBI Medical Examiner's office to determine the precise cause and manner of death. On Friday, December 21, 2018, a collaborative effort involving the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, the Dade County Sheriff's Office, and the GBI culminated in the execution of an arrest and search warrant at the residence of Sam Street. Street was taken into custody in connection with the murder of Justin Alfrey. He was subsequently charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and was transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Fort Payne, Alabama.
