In the late hours of a February evening in Columbus, Georgia, the life of Jeffery Randez Smith, a 36-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On February 27, 2023, while riding his bicycle near the intersection of 35th Street and 5th Avenue, Smith was fatally shot. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but their efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m.
