On February 27, 2023, 36-year-old Jeffery Randez Smith was fatally shot while riding his bicycle near the intersection of 35th Street and 5th Avenue in Columbus, Georgia. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
