In the spring of 2022, a promising life was tragically cut short on a street in northwest Atlanta. Corey Blount Jr., a 21-year-old male from Hampton, was found with a fatal gunshot wound on the evening of Saturday, April 30, 2022. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the 530 block of Sunset Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Blount, who had been shot multiple times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify a suspect, 40-year-old Jason Hall. A warrant for aggravated murder was issued for his arrest. Believing Hall had fled the state, law enforcement tracked him to Ohio. On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Hall just outside of Cleveland.
Following his arrest, Hall was expected to be extradited back to Fulton County, Georgia, to face charges for his alleged role in the death of Corey Blount Jr. The U.S. Marshal's office stated that Blount had been struck by four bullets. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting and the circumstances leading up to the tragic event have not been publicly detailed by law enforcement officials. The investigation is considered ongoing.
