In the evening hours of November 1, 2021, a dispute in the Oakland City neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia, ended in the shooting death of 29-year-old Cavario Andicus Major. An African American male, Major was found by police at a residence on White Oak Avenue with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a dispute and that Major knew his assailant.
The investigation into Major's death suggested it was not a random act of violence but a targeted incident, with potential links to gang-related activities and possible retaliation. Prior to his death, Major had been involved in criminal activities and was charged under the Georgia RICO Act for his role in a smash-and-grab burglary ring associated with a street gang based in Oakland City. This gang was known for committing numerous burglaries across the state.
Despite law enforcement's efforts and the belief that the suspect and victim were familiar with one another, no arrests have been made in connection with Cavario Major's murder. The case officially remains unresolved, and no suspects have been publicly identified as the investigation continues. His family and community continue to seek answers and justice in his death. A Celebration of Life Service was held for Major on November 9, 2021, at the New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, and he was laid to rest at Westview Cemetery.
