In the autumn of 2022, the life of David Tigner, a 50-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short in an act of violence that shook his Atlanta community. On the afternoon of October 27, Tigner was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping plaza located at 735 Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW when he was fatally shot. The suddenness of the event left a void in the lives of those who knew him, particularly his six children and his grandchildren.
Remembered as a pillar of his community, his family described him as a man with a heart of gold, a family man who was always willing to help others.
The investigation into the shooting was swift. Atlanta Police Department homicide investigators responded to the scene and, through witness statements and other evidence, were able to identify a suspect. The inquiry revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence but was allegedly the result of a prior dispute and altercation between Tigner and an acquaintance. This information led authorities to seek out the individual they believed was responsible for the fatal encounter.
Within a day of the shooting, an arrest was made. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Terrence Heard, was taken into custody. Heard was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for his alleged role in David Tigner's death. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Fulton County Jail. As the legal proceedings against Terrence Heard commenced, the family and friends of David Tigner gathered to celebrate his life and mourn their profound loss, holding his funeral service at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta.
