In the early morning hours of June 23, 2021, a dispute in a rideshare vehicle in Atlanta, Georgia, escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 34-year-old Kevin ‘Vino’ Fulton. The incident, which also left another passenger critically wounded, unfolded at a Chevron gas station on Monroe Drive. Fulton, a recent graduate of Morehouse College, was a passenger in an Uber with two other men when an argument broke out with the driver.
The driver, identified as Nigel Nembhard,
allegedly pulled into the gas station and shot at the passengers. Fulton was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second passenger was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. The third passenger was unharmed and fled the scene before police arrived. Nembhard remained at the scene and was taken into custody for questioning.
Following an investigation, Nigel Nembhard was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. During a subsequent bond hearing, Nembhard's attorney argued that his client acted in self-defense, claiming the passengers had been unruly, threatened him, and that one of them had a gun and spat at him. Prosecutors, however, contended that video evidence from the gas station would show that Fulton was running away when he was shot in the back. The court denied bond for Nembhard. The case highlights the tragic consequences of a heated argument that turned violent, leaving a family to mourn the loss of a loved one.
