In the early morning hours of December 12, 2018, a Snellville man, Darius Daniels, a 28-year-old Black male, was found deceased in a hotel room at the Homestay Suites on Stone Mountain Highway in unincorporated Lilburn. Gwinnett County Police officers responded to a 'person shot' call shortly before 4:00 a.m. and discovered Mr. Daniels' body upon their arrival.
The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses. According to initial reports, the suspects were described as four to five Black males, all dressed in black clothing and wearing masks. It was believed that the suspects were armed, but their whereabouts after the incident remained unknown. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators.
Following the initial investigation, the Gwinnett County Police Department publicly identified the victim as Darius Daniels and confirmed that his family had been notified of his death. Despite identifying the victim, law enforcement officials stated that there was no new information regarding the suspects or the motive behind the homicide. Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact GCPD detectives or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
