In the early morning hours of a Tuesday in July, 2025, the quiet of a Snellville, Georgia community was broken by a grim discovery. A passerby stumbled upon the body of a man in the parking lot of Cannon United Methodist Church on Webb Gin House Road and immediately alerted the authorities. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Oscar Alexis Cruz, a Hispanic male from Lawrenceville, who had been shot multiple times.
Police quickly determined that the church itself had no connection to the violent act.
The investigation into Cruz's death revealed a harrowing tale of a home invasion and kidnapping that had begun hours earlier. Investigators learned that several individuals forced their way into Cruz's home on Gin Blossom Circle. Inside, they held Cruz and his wife at gunpoint, stealing money and drugs. In a chilling farewell, the intruders told Cruz's wife to kiss her husband goodbye, for it would be the last time she would see him. They then bound Cruz's hands with duct tape and forced him from his home.
