In the early evening of November 16, 2021, a sense of routine filled the air at the Citgo gas station on Centerville Highway in Snellville, Georgia. That ordinary atmosphere was shattered shortly after 7:00 p.m. when the sound of a gunshot echoed through the parking lot plaza. When police officers arrived, they discovered the body of 21-year-old Taijuan Hall, a Black male from nearby Lithonia, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The initial investigation began with law enforcement exploring all possible motives for the sudden and violent end to a young life.
As detectives pieced together the events of that evening, their investigation led them to two individuals. On December 1, 2021, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office apprehended 21-year-old Dreeonnie Hart of Lawrenceville. Less than two weeks later, on December 13, Conyers Police Department arrested a second suspect, 21-year-old Thi Sheik Barrow of Snellville. The arrests brought a swift development to a case that had begun with a call about a person shot in a public place.
With the suspects in custody, the legal process began to unfold. Dreeonnie Hart was charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery and party to a crime, suggesting a planned element to the fatal encounter. Thi Sheik Barrow faced more severe charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Both men were taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where they were held without bond as they awaited further legal proceedings. While the arrests provided some answers, the full story of the moments that led to Taijuan Hall's death remained to be told through the course of the criminal justice system.
