In the fall of 2014, the life of 32-year-old Kenneth Corn was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Atlanta, Georgia. On the evening of October 17, Corn was sitting in a car in his grandmother's driveway on Barrow Place when he was shot. Despite his injuries, Corn managed to drive for about a mile before crashing the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds. There was another passenger in the car who was also injured in the incident.
Authorities believed the motive for the shooting was a robbery. At the time of his death, Kenneth's wife, Tamilla, was pregnant with their third child.
For nearly two years, the case remained without a significant breakthrough, leaving his family in a state of painful uncertainty. Then, in July of 2016, an acquaintance of Kenneth's named James Reid was arrested in connection with the murder. Reid was subsequently charged with murder, assault, and various weapons offenses, bringing a glimmer of hope to Corn's grieving family that justice would be served. His mother, Alecia Kates, expressed the prolonged anguish of waiting for an arrest in her son's case. However, Tamilla Corn voiced her belief that Reid was not the only person involved in her husband's death, suggesting that others were present in the vehicle with the assailant.
The legal proceedings that followed took an unexpected turn. In August 2016, a judge dismissed the charges against James Reid during a probable cause hearing, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. This development was a significant setback for the prosecution and a deep disappointment for Kenneth Corn's family. Despite the dismissal, the Fulton County District Attorney's office maintained that the investigation was not closed and announced their intention to present the evidence to a grand jury. Tamilla Corn remained resolute in her quest for justice for her late husband and the father of her children, vowing to continue her fight until all those responsible were held accountable.
