In the late summer of 2023, a dispute over a vehicle escalated into a fatal home invasion in College Park, Georgia, claiming the life of 30-year-old Abhishek Bharadwaj. On August 7th, Bharadwaj was shot and killed inside his Aiden Court residence. The incident unfolded after an argument earlier that day between Bharadwaj and his girlfriend, Reshayla Alonza, concerning his car which she was unwilling to return.
Later that day, Alonza returned to the home, accompanied by three other
individuals: Jamal Hendricks, Skylar Monai Williams, and Gary Smith, who is reportedly Alonza's brother. Surveillance footage from a neighbor's camera captured a black Nissan Sentra arriving near the residence, from which two women and a man emerged. The group gained entry to the house through an open garage door.
Inside the home, the situation tragically intensified. Witnesses reported that Alonza and Smith were armed. As Bharadwaj ran towards the front door, Smith allegedly followed him. According to warrants, one of the female suspects was heard yelling, 'Shoot him, bruh. He wanted that f------ car that bad, shoot his a--,' just before Smith allegedly shot Bharadwaj in the face. Tragically, Bharadwaj's child was present in the home at the time of the shooting. His father was also at the residence during the incident. Bharadwaj succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement identified and apprehended the four individuals believed to be involved. In late August 2023, Jamal Hendricks, Reshayla Alonza, and Skylar Monai Williams were arrested. Nearly two years later, on August 12, 2025, the fourth and final suspect, Gary Smith, was taken into custody. The suspects face a range of serious charges, including felony murder, first-degree home invasion, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Smith also faces a charge of third-degree cruelty to children.
