In December of 2014, a 51-year-old Atlanta man named Clendon L. Sims, a male, died after being shot during what police described as a burglary attempt at a townhome in Brookhaven, Georgia. The incident took place on a Wednesday morning at a residence in a gated community off of Ashford Dunwoody Road.
According to Brookhaven police, Sims first rang the doorbell of the townhome multiple times. When there was no answer, he proceeded to kick in the front door to gain entry into the home.
Once inside, he was confronted by the resident. The resident, who was not identified by police, fired a single shot which struck Sims in the head.
Following the shooting, Sims was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. He ultimately succumbed to the gunshot wound on the following Friday evening. At the time of the initial reports, the Brookhaven Police Department stated that their investigation into the shooting was still active and ongoing. They also indicated that no charges had been filed against the resident who fired the shot. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or charges in connection with the death of Clendon Sims.
